Jeepers Creepers

EXCELLENT

Year: 2001

I started to watch this film at random as I was zapping on the TVdidn't not even know it was a horror movie until I saw the monster. At that time I didn't like horror movies and ‘Jeepers Creepers’ is the first film which make me like the supernatural genre. I was not expecting anything from it and this is why I liked it so much as the movie surprised me at different times. The story about the devil monster was told on how he wakes up every twenty-three spring during twenty-three days. During those days he has to eat as much people as he can. He also has and a hobby, he likes to conserve the bodies of his victims at least the parts of them which he hadn't eat. When he targets a prey he will not let it go for any reason and unfortunately for his victims, he succeeds all the time.

Quarantine 2

GOOD

Year: 2011

I was a little disappointed at the beginning because I thought that the second ‘Quarantine’ was at any point related to the first one, OK may be it had the same virus. Yet when I continue to watch the film, images of the first movie was being diffused as news in the second one. So it was obvious that I was wrong and that they were related. The best is that not only being filmed in a different environment that the first one, the history of how the virus was created was told and explained. In ‘Quarantine 2,’there are two survivors but one is contaminated and is going to repeat the same story. So the movie didn't end well, which was expected as in the first one everybody died

Quarantine

GOOD

Year: 2008

I watched this film because I knew that Jennifer Carpenter was playing in it. Normally I don’t like films which have been filmed with a single camera because only one angle is been offered and I don’t appreciate the amateur effect of the cameraman. But when it comes to horror movies, I have found that it is a good way to make the audience feel as if they are part of the characters. The thrill can be experienced more intensely. Well as it is the name of the movie we expect that there is quarantine in it but we don’t know why. There is like and infection which turns people and animals into very primitive, aggressive and hungry creatures. I was hoping that some people would survive BUT NO; they were all transformed or eaten. The only thing which I reproach is that we don’t know how the virus is spread but it is explained in 'Quarantine 2'.

Blackout

GOOD

Year: 2008

It is a good movie, not very scary but still it is entertaining. Three completely different characters and the only thing which they have in common is that they lived in the same building and they got stuck in the elevator. I like the fact that the stories of the three of them were told and that we have to guess which one was the murdered. I thought at first that it was the young guy but it was too evident and then I thought of the doctor. The role of father and a doctor who use to save lives seem so fake to me. The guy is a complete psycho. Unfortunately the film didn't finish that well but at least among the three people in the elevator, one survived.

Shelter

EXCELLENT

Year: 2010

I really appreciate trailers because I like to have an “avant gout” of what is going to happen in a movie before watching , just to know if it is going to please me or not. But I must say that sometimes viewing a film without knowing about it is pleasant as well as it is full of surprises. ‘Shelter’ is nothing like the other horror movies I've watched. I was not able to guest why and how the people were dying in such pain. It was quite an enigma to guest the reasons of these murders and why David had so many different personalities. For my great pleasure I was able to know the history of the film, so everything was explain in time. Yet I was expecting a happy ending which never happen as Cara Harding the main character was not able to save the soul of her daughter Sammy. But it is still and excellent movie, WATCH IT!

The Forgotten

EXCELLENT

Year: 2004

didn't know anything about the film, no trailer, no people talking about it to me, I just watched it randomly. I found it fantastic and I could not guest mostly anything which was going to happen and I liked that. I really thought that the principal character, Telly Paretta was crazy and that she was imagining and creating the whole story about her son Sam. Her own husband was not even believing in her, why should I? I thought that she would fight alone to reconquer Sam but she succeeded in making other people believing in her such as: Ash Correll who lost his daughter but forgot about it, her psychologist Dr. Jack Munce and the Det. Anne Pope. It is scary to think that aliens are everywhere and that they are able to control and manipulate us like they did in the film. Hopefully the movie ended well but the extraterrestrial lives are still watching us.

Dark Skies

EXCELLENT

Year: 2013

One of the best movies I've seen this year. It reminded me of ‘The Sign’ but it is way better. I never thought that the Greys were going to scare me that much especially because they are common fictional aliens that have seen in too many movies. After having watch ‘Paul,’ I thought that those kind of extraterrestrial life would never frighten me again as it was funny, BUT NO. The film is so good and I like how the aliens cause trouble to the family and divided them apart. The first time I saw a Grey in the movie, my heart nearly stopped beating and it is the music and the sound of the film which made that suspense. I like that feeling so much and I can’t say why. Nearly at the end when the family was reunited to fight the Greys, I was so afraid at that moment when the alien just appeared suddenly. I already guessed which boy was going to be kidnapped but I thought that the film was going to end just like that. Fortunately there is still hope as the voice of the kidnapped son could be heard from a walkie-talkie.

Devil

EXCELLENT

Year: 2010

I never thought a scene in an elevator would be so scary. All the film is not only played in the elevator but it if was the case I think that I would still like it. I didn't not realize that mostly every little thing we do, can be a crime or a sin which can be severely punished. You cannot even judge people on their appearance anymore because you never know who they are in the inside and it can surprise you. I was not expecting that it would end well, but it did and I liked it. I never thought that redemption for a sin and only forgiveness from the two principal characters would change the plan of the Devil.

Dawn of the Dead

BAD

Year: 2004

The trailer was way better than the movie itself. I could not feel anything from this film. It is boring, some of the actors don’t act well and I was not scared of the zombies. I was expecting so much from the movie because of the trailer, but at the end what a disappointment. The only thing which I found interesting was the unborn zombie baby and that all. It least it could have finished well, BUT NO. So we can guest that everybody died at the end.

The sign

BAD

Year: 2002

I was very disappointed by this film. I thought that it was going to be very good and scary. It was more boring and annoying as I was always waiting for something scary to happen but it didn’t. The little boy was creepy and strange and I think he was the only thing how scared me during the whole movie. Knowing that Mel Gibson was playing in it, I was expecting to view a good film BUT NO. At least I was able to see the aliens but we were not sure why they came on earth apart from the fact that they were kidnapping people, but to do what with them? I felt like totally wasting my time after watching that movie.

Halloween 2

GOOD

Year: 2009

I like second part of films but sometime it doesn't make any sense. In a whole I appreciated ‘Halloween 2’ in term of horror, drama, killing and suspense, but the guy was supposed to be dead in the first one, is he a mutant or something? I still don’t understand why he has to kill people who haven’t done him anything. It’s unfair for Laurie Strode, Michael Myers’ sister as she went through too much drama in her live, she lost so many people who were dear to her and now her brother comes again for her. The only close person left to Laurie is her friend who escaped from Michael Myers the year before and unfortunately, she is savagely killed in her bathroom. I don’t like the end because Laurie is still alive “fortunately” but at what price? She killed her own brother, she has lost everything and to finish, she ended in a mental hospital because she became crazy.

Halloween

EXCELLENT

Year: 2007

In the past the only horror movies I used to watch were paranormal or supernatural ones. Now I’m more open to criminal and psychopath kind of film. It all started with the film ‘Halloween’ the remake of 2007. I think that I was able to watch it because it began with a history, and I like stories. The reason why the murdered became who he is, is explained and shown. The birth of the dark side of the boy was explored and I could understand why he became a criminal. Yet I was still shocked when I saw who he killed people especially members of his family because he was a young boy. Michael Myers kills anyone who is in front of him even if they haven’t done anything to him. I don’t understand why wanted to kill his little sister after he had spared her at the beginning.

The Thing 2011

EXCELLENT

Year: 2011

Last year I saw this movie on TV but I could only see parts of it in 2012 not even the beginning, so I did not bother to watch it completely until four months ago. The first time, I but could not understand a thing of what was going on but then after having seen the one in 1982 I thought that it would help and it did. As the film is more recent, the special effects were way much better compared to the old one. I realized that it was not a remake but a kind of spin-off from the first ‘The Thing.’ Guest how surprised I was at the end of the movie when I understood that the second film tales the history that happened before in 1982. It was then that I gathered all the pieces and realized that everything matched with the first film. I did not get all the information about the creature but at least I knew more about it and what happened to the people in the other station. The weird thing is that COINCIDENTALLY, while I was writing this post ‘The Thing’ of 2011 was a passing on TV.

The Thing

VERY GOOD

Year: 1982

In a whole it is a very good film, it is scary, gross and I almost jumped from my bed because of some scenes. To be honest I've watched it like four months ago even if it is a thirty-one year old film. This is because I wanted to watch the remake of 2011 and compared both of them. Who could have guested that the nice and scary dog was contaminated by the extraterrestrial virus and that it was going to spread it to everyone. As I like to know the whole history in movies, I wanted to know why this creature was on earth but unfortunately for me, there was neither flashback nor any people knowing the exact reason of its arrival on our planet. I really wanted to know what did happened to the people in the other station and fortunately I was going to know it by viewing ‘The Thing’ of 2011.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

VERY GOOD

Year: 2005

I've heard a lot about this film when people talks about ‘The Exorcism’ and I wanted to watch it by me. Indeed it is a very good film but I knew that I would not be that scared as when people flatter something too much to me I’m sure that I won’t like it that much. Yet I must say that I like the film after all that but I was not frighten neither. I already knew the principal character Emily played by Jennifer Carpenter as I saw her in Dexter. She is a good actress and she played the character of Emily very well especially when she was possessed. I don’t regret I watched this movie.

Final Destination 5

VERY GOOD

Year: 2011

This is the last episode of the series and I really hope that there will be some more. I’m never fed up of them and when I know that another one will be release, I’m always impatient to see it. For me the last one is rated among the best of all the ‘Final Destination.’ During the premonition of the guy when they were in the bus, there was that song which was place ‘Dust in the Wind’ from Kansas and every time I hear it I think of the movie and also of Death LOL! I knew in this episode that a victim’s life could be saved if he took another person’s life but it had to be someone who is not going to die soon. I still like the idea of the writer on how the people were dying. My favorite part was the end as I was not expecting anything. The film was well think and well plan.

Final Destination 4

GOOD

Year: 2009

I was not really scared in this one. It was a little disappointing that the death of the victims was so rapid, I could not really realized what did happen to them. Yet the ideas of the death were still very good and at least there were two deaths which I could felt and it chilled me. There is the mother who went to a hairdresser and the guy in the swimming pool. For the woman I must say that I was expecting her death to happen in many different ways but what killed her surprised me. For the guy, I thought that he would drown BUT NO; it was more horrible than that.

Final Destination 3

VERY GOOD

Year: 2006

Actually I've watch this one first and as I liked it very much, I wanted to see the previous ones. I found this one ‘more raw’ in term of blood and flesh. It was more disgusting but more realistic, so it is a very good as it gave me such a thrill and I nearly puked for some occasion. What I like the most in this one was that the death of the survivors could be predicted on photos. It was a good idea from the writer. I admit that I laughed when the two girls were burning during their UV session. The end was tragic but expected and when we think of it, the characters have done everything to stay alive and at the end it was for nothing.

Monday 11 November 2013

Final Destination 2

VERY GOOD

Year: 2003

After having seen the first one, I was impatient to see the second movie even if haven’t seen all of them in the proper order. I was sad to know that among the survivors of the plane explosion in New York, only one was still alive. That time it was a girl who saw the tragic future. Compared to the first one the victims were not in the same vehicle, so I was able to see each one dying separately and this was more horrible. I was not prepared for some death as they came too suddenly but it surprised me. The end was unexpected and I like it. Fortunately two peoples survived but I never saw them again in the other series. May be they died too.

Final Destination

VERY GOOD

Year: 2000

I never though this kind of films would please me and when I heard that it was all about people who die one after the other, I didn't find that interesting at all but everything is in the way they die.  Jeffrey Reddick the writer of the story must have an incredible dark imagination. I think that it is the best of the entire Final Destination’s series. I could feel death coming to take the lives of the poor ones who escaped their tragic destiny. We can see the Death in this one or at least its shadow. In this one Death is more like a creature which come for its victims. For example Tod Waggner the first one who died after the plane explosion, slipped on water over his bathroom tiles. The thing is that the water leaked only to make him slip and after his death, the liquid get back to its place. A death that made me rolled over my bed was the one of Valerie Lewton. She was the teacher who blamed Alex Browning; the psychic guy for the accident on the plane. The lady died horribly as I was wondering “how is she going to die?” I saw so many things that could have kill her and I wanted to know which among them was going to cause her death. Surprisingly she died from all of them; alcohol, computer, knife, fire etc… Well after viewing the movie, I became extremely prudent with EVERYTHING that surrounds me.

The Mist

GOOD

Year: 2007

I've watched this film in 2010 and I forgot a little about it so I wanted to see it again and I reviewed it some months ago. In a whole it is a very nice film with lot of scary and deadly creatures from another dimension. I like the fact that they explained where the monsters came from because I was asking myself many questions when I was watching in the first time. I was surprised how people built up different communities when they are afraid and they turn themselves to God when they have no answers to their questions. The end on the other hand is quite disappointing. In my country we would say, lin fini bet which means literally, “it ended stupidly.” But if we reflect on that, there is a moral to this ending and for David Drayton it was next time don’t turn your back on people.” He refused to help a woman who left the supermarket and at the end he saw her alive with her children while he ended the lives of his own son, two women and an old man because he didn't want them to suffer in this new world full of horrible creatures.

Ginger Snaps Back

GOOD

Year: 2004

The last chapter of the series is different from the previous ones as the story happen in the past. The tale is still about two sisters of the same name who are going to become werewolves but it happen in a different time. In a whole the film is still good to be watched. Compare to the first movie, Ginger does not die in this one never Brigitte is a prisoner. The only sad thing was that everybody else in the film died and the two sisters became werewolves.

Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed

GOOD

Year: 2004

I thought that after what happened in the first movie nothing in the future life of Brigitte would go wrong, but guest what, IT GOT WORST. I prefer the second movie compared to the first one as it is not always focus on Ginger. She passed away and she appeared in the film only as a ghost. I really like the character of Ghost and I knew that there was something wrong about her the moment I saw her Grand-mother (Barbara) panicked when she came by. I appreciated the fact that the story took place in different places such as the public library, a motel, a center for drug addicts and Barbara's house compared to Ginger Snaps which happened only in the regions where the two sisters lived. I was not expecting that I would end like that. When we think about all the things Brigitte has been through, it is quite unfair to finish like that. Yet it is a thriller not a fairy tale so the happy ending is not really appropriate and also happy ending do not always reflects reality as it don’t happen all the time.

Wednesday 6 November 2013

Ginger Snaps

GOOD

Year: 2000

In a whole it is a good film. It has original ideas on how to use the myth of werewolf. Here the lycanthropy is described as a disease instead of a curse or anything related to magic. Female werewolves are not common compared to male but in this movie Ginger is the major character and she demonstrated how she can control men. This film sends a good message to sexual active teenagers and it is if you don’t want to catch any diseases, use condoms.” The movie also shows how the love of a mother is huge at a point where she hid her daughters from murder chargers. I was expecting the thriller to have happy ending BUT NO, it finished in a chaos.

Tuesday 5 November 2013

The Blair Witch Project

BAD

Year: 1999

I knew about this film during the module of Web Media when we were talking about independent movies. I got good feedback of this film but as I don’t always have faith in what everybody tells me, I preferred to watch it on my own. Usually when too many people tell me things like “there is a song which is very nice” or “this movie is the best,” I’m 99.9% sure that I won’t like them. To be honest I was not expecting that much from and independent horror movie may be at least being scared. I was more stressed because I was expecting something frightening to happen all the time BUT NO it was not the case. I wanted to slap that girl because she was pissing me off, SHE TALKED TO MUCH. I felt like I wasted my time for nothing, NOT EVEN A WITCH. At least we know than the group of friends disappeared but how? May be it was some sick crazy maniacs who wanted to have so fun by mentally and may be physically torturing some poor campers. We didn't even saw their faces. I was thinking, may be if I had watch the thriller 14 years ago I would have found it GOOD but then I realized that I would still find it BAD. I just wanted to be scared by it that’s all.

Monday 4 November 2013

The Collection

VERY GOOD

Year: 2012

I really like that film. I was not expecting that much dead even from a serial killer. When the people were dying I could feet it. I thought that the friends of the girl would escape or would be saved BUT NO; they were killed like the others. I was expecting to see the face of the murderer at least at the end of the movie, BUT NO we didn't even know how he looks like. I was much disgusted than scared but I still appreciate it as it is a feature which I like to see in horror movies.

Sunday 3 November 2013

Ghosts of Mars

GOOD

Year: 2001

The film was not that good but on the other hand, it was not that bad. I watched it without the feeling of wasting my time. So the movie was OK. I appreciated that the origin of the Martian spirit was told to us. Unfortunately the ghost could not be killed, so we already the human population based on Mars are doomed. I didn't get any feeling when people died; I think that I’m becoming insensitive. But I must say that I almost puke when the possessed ones were cutting their faces.

Area 407

BAD

Year: 2012

I was not able to feel anything from the film. No scares, no pity and I was not even sad for the dead people. The only thing which I've found nice was that the annoying character (Charlie) who was pissing everybody off decided to help the others at a certain point. If it was in a different movie, Charlie would have been among the first dead one or worst, he would have cause the end of many people before killing himself accidentally  We did not get any information about the creatures and that SUCKS. I know that we were supposed to watch the film from the point of view of the victims but as audience, we want to know the history. I LIKE TO KNOW THE FULL HISTORY IN MOVIES. The blood on their body looks so fake that I was wondering “why are they still alive after losing so much blood?” I knew by the trailer that the end would piss me off but I admit that jump at the last moment. From my point of view this was the only scary part of the movie.

Saturday 2 November 2013

Silent Hills 2

BAD

Year: 2012

I was very disappointed as I was expecting it to be at least a good film. I found the first one very good but the second one SUCKS. Fortunately it is explained how the little girl returned back to her world without her mum and I think this was the only good part to me. There may be a part of the film which made me jump from my seat but the rest was not very scary. The trailer was appealing but not the movie. The end was not nice at all. I think they should have stop with the first Silent Hills. FEEL FREE TO WATCH AND COMPARE THE TWO SILENT HILLS.

Friday 1 November 2013

Curse of Chucky

Excellent

Year: 2013

One of my worst phobias is doll but I don’t know why, I like Chucky. I’m never fed up of Chucky’s series and I think that I will never be so if there is more in the future. I've watch all of them and I was scared and happy at the same time. I was happy that this kind of horror movies could scare me all the time and I really appreciate the black humor which is present in the series. When Chucky swears, especially in front of kids, I’m always about to cry as I laugh so much. It is funny and freaky to see how a doll can act so nastily. Well Curse of Chucky was not that funny compared to the others but it was still and excellent film. I like that a flashback of the past of Chucky was shown so that we can understand the story more clearly. Yet I missed some things, I don’t understand why Chucky’s bride helped him again, she was supposed to be done with killing and she had to kids to take care of. Why did Chucky recite his magic formula to steal the soul of the little girl if he didn't take her body at the end? The real end of the movie, after all the acknowledgment, was awesome. I was expecting that to happen but I was not totally sure about it. WATCH CURSE OF CHUCKY.
